Rasheed Mills Obituary, Death; – A 16-year-old boy has lost his life following a shooting incident on Thursday night in Over-The-Rhine.
Cincinnati Police Department units responded to a report of a shooting in an apartment located on the 1300 block of Vine Street. The victim, who was shot in the chest according to police, was transported to a nearby hospital where he subsequently passed away.
The coroner’s office has identified the victim as 16-year-old Rasheed Mills. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear.
Authorities reported that the suspect fled the scene, but no description of the individual has been provided.
The victim’s father spoke with WLWT, revealing that Mills had just celebrated his 16th birthday. He mentioned that Mills was a sophomore at Taft High School and held two jobs, one of which was as a camp counselor for children with diabetes. Those who were acquainted with the victim described him as a good young man.
“I just gave him a hug a few days ago,” a neighbor who knew Mills remarked. “I don’t know what transpired regarding the drama or anything like that. I don’t have any information about that, but he was a very nice young man.” Mills was involved with Camp Korelitz and was preparing to become a camp counselor this summer.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rasheed Mills, who was a beloved participant at our Camp Korelitz and was set to be a counselor in training this summer. Rasheed was a treasured member of our Camp family and will be profoundly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this incredibly challenging time,” stated Joe Esten, the camp director of the American Diabetes Association.
No motive for the shooting has been disclosed. The investigation is still ongoing.
