Randy Thomas Zimmerman Arrested; – The purported double homicide took place early on Sunday morning, with law enforcement announcing the apprehension of the suspect approximately 12 hours later.
Brown County deputies responded to a 911 call just before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, which reported a shooting incident.
A juvenile caller indicated that his mother’s ex-boyfriend had broken into their home and shot his mother in the small town of Hanska, located about 12 miles south of New Ulm.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the boy’s 32-year-old mother and a 50-year-old man deceased at the scene due to gunshot wounds, according to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office. The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities have identified the suspected shooter as 45-year-old Randy Thomas Zimmerman.
Officials provided a description of Zimmerman’s clothing and the vehicle he was operating. Law enforcement also cautioned the public that Zimmerman was armed and dangerous and may have fled the state.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office later reported that Zimmerman had been apprehended in Iowa by several law enforcement agencies shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Information regarding the circumstances of the arrest is currently unavailable. Authorities have stated that they are awaiting Zimmerman’s extradition back to Minnesota.
