Rachael Martinez,Jose Media Obituary, Death; Harbor Police officers involved in Little Italy shooting identified

Rachael Martinez,Jose Media Obituary, Death; – The San Diego Police Department has disclosed the names of the officers involved in responding to an incident where a suspect is accused of fatally shooting two individuals in their vehicle near the San Diego County Courthouse on Wednesday, November 13.

The suspect, 26-year-old Christopher Farrell, is alleged to have shot the couple in their car located at 1300 Union St. shortly before 8:30 a.m. as they were en route to the courthouse for a restraining order hearing against him. Authorities reported that Farrell had a prior relationship with the female victim, 31-year-old Rachael Martinez. Both Martinez and her partner, 39-year-old Jose Media, lost their lives in the shooting.

Witnesses observed Farrell fleeing the scene on foot while brandishing a firearm, as per the San Diego Police Department. He was subsequently located by officers from the Port of San Diego Harbor Police in Little Italy, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire.

During this confrontation, a Harbor Police officer sustained injuries, and Farrell was ultimately shot and killed. The San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit is currently investigating the incident.

On Thursday, the SDPD identified the Harbor Police officers involved in the event. The officers who discharged their weapons were identified as Corporal Jason Day and Officer Alexander Kahn. Corporal Day has served with the Harbor Police for approximately six years, while Officer Kahn has been with the department for around nine years, according to the SDPD.

The officer who was injured has been named as Officer Patrick Lynch. He joined the Harbor Police in September and previously served with the San Diego Police Department for about one year. Officer Lynch, who did not discharge his weapon during the incident, is presently undergoing field training on patrol.

The SDPD indicated that the investigation will be submitted to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office to assess any potential criminal liability of the officers involved. Additionally, the Harbor Police Department will conduct its own inquiry into the officers’ use of firearms, with oversight from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
