Peter Surdo Obituary, Death; – Delaware State Police said Peter Surdo, 71, Kennett Square, was killed in a four-vehicle crash in Milford on Coastal Highway.
Surdo was southbound about 7:30 a.m. on July 11 approaching Bakerfield Road with two other vehicles in the southbound lanes behind his Town and Country minivan, troopers said. Those were a Subaru Forester and a Chrysler 200.
Troopers gave this account:
The driver of an oncoming Chevrolet Tahoe lost control on a curve, and the SUV entered the center median, rotated counterclockwise, then entered the southbound lanes of Coastal Highway into the path of the minivan.
The right front of the Tahoe struck the left front of the minivan, separating the engine from the Tahoe. Then the Subaru struck the minivan, and the Chrysler 200 hit the detached engine. The driver of the Tahoe, a 31-year-old man from Frederica, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries.
The driver of the Forester, a 36-year-old woman from Doylestown, Bucks County, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Â The driver of the 200, a 34-year-old woman from Dover, Delaware, was not injured. Coastal Highway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
Seat belt information was not provided. Troopers also didn’t describe road conditions. The investigation remains ongoing.
