Paul Taylor Obituary, Death; – A resident of Carlisle has been convicted today, 21 October, of the murder of Paul Taylor, which occurred in October of the previous year (2023). This verdict was reached following a two-week trial at Carlisle Crown Court.
Jack Crawley, aged 20 and without a permanent address, was found guilty of murdering Paul Taylor and also of attempted murder related to an incident in North Yorkshire in January 2024.
Crawley denied the allegations against him and is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, 23 October. Detective Superintendent Ian Hussey served as the senior investigating officer for this case.
In a statement following the verdict, he remarked, “Paul was tragically killed after being assaulted by Jack Crawley. He was a beloved father, husband, brother, and friend, and his absence will be deeply felt by many.
“Crawley maintained his innocence regarding the murder of Paul, instead pleading guilty to manslaughter, asserting that the death resulted from a botched car theft. However, after the jury reviewed the evidence presented, they determined him guilty of murder.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the jury members who attentively considered all the evidence related to this distressing incident.
“I also extend my thanks to our colleagues in the Crown Prosecution Service, particularly prosecuting counsel David McLachlan KC and Will Beardmore, for their diligent preparation and presentation of the case at trial.
“I must take this opportunity to commend the dedicated officers and staff from Cumbria Constabulary who have tirelessly worked on this investigation for several months, demonstrating exceptional skill and professionalism.
“The investigation also involved close collaboration with North Yorkshire Police, who led the manhunt to apprehend Crawley after he absconded from Cumbria. I commend our colleagues in North Yorkshire for their exemplary efforts in this intricate case, which have been instrumental in achieving justice for the victims of Jack Crawley and their families. “Lastly, I wish to pay tribute.
