Paul Lowe Obituary, Death; – In a shocking development related to a tragic incident on a well-frequented hiking trail in the San Gabriel Mountains, a 19-year-old man has been accused of fatally stabbing his father. The victim has been recognized as Paul Lowe, a distinguished war photographer, photojournalist, and professor at the University of the Arts London.
On October 12, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call near Mt. Baldy Road close to Stoddard Canyon Falls in California shortly before 3:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a man with severe injuries to his upper torso, as reported by LASD officials in a press release.
The deceased, identified by acquaintances as 61-year-old Paul Lowe, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators quickly discovered that another individual was observed fleeing the area at high speed and subsequently crashed his vehicle a few miles away. Authorities initially apprehended the 19-year-old, later identified as Emir Lowe, based on LASD booking records, and subsequently charged him with murder.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was a stab wound to the neck. Friends and colleagues of the esteemed professor and acclaimed photojournalist, who documented the horrors of the Bosnian war and divided his time between London and Sarajevo, are remembering him as a mentor and a cherished friend.
Lara Jo Regan, a fellow photojournalist and colleague of Lowe, recounted to Nexstar’s KTLA their first meeting at the World Press Photo of the Year exhibition 24 years ago.
“We engaged in many fascinating, thought-provoking, and inspiring discussions about photography,” she reflected. “His impact on numerous individuals, both students and peers, was profound. He possessed a remarkable generosity of spirit.”
Regan mentioned that Lowe had informed her he was in Southern California to address some family issues.
