Osvaldo Gonzalez-Hernandez Obituary, Death; – The community is coming together to support the family of a West Haven man who tragically lost his life in a recent hit-and-run incident while riding a scooter.

According to the New Haven Register, the victim has been identified as 49-year-old Osvaldo Gonzalez-Hernandez. The accident occurred on October 24 at the intersection of First Avenue and Mix Avenue.

Michael Avena, the proprietor of We’re Back Pizza in Orange, shared with the Register that Gonzalez-Hernandez had been employed at the previous Abate’s Pizza on Boston Post Road in Orange. Avena ensured that Gonzalez-Hernandez would join him when he opened the new pizzeria at the same location in 2023.

In response to this tragedy, Avena has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to facilitate the return of Gonzalez-Hernandez’s remains to his family in Mexico for burial. “It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our friend and colleague, Osvaldo Gonzalez,” Avena expressed in the GoFundMe post. “Osvaldo had been a part of our team since 2011, a dedicated employee who consistently brought joy to our restaurant, even in challenging times.

We aim to bring Osvaldo back to Mexico to be laid to rest alongside his four children, grandchildren, and mother. We kindly ask for your assistance in this endeavor.” As of Monday morning, the campaign has successfully raised over $2,600 within its first five days.
