Nanette Smith Obituary, Death;- Baldwin County Sheriffs have identified the victims of a “domestic situation” they responded to late Saturday night in an unincorporated area of Fairhope. The incident left one person dead, another injured, and Ryan Thomas Smith, 38, jailed after a chase on I-65, the sheriff’s office said.
Smith’s mother, 67-year-old Nanette Smith, was killed at their home on Dominion Drive, according to a recent release. Smith’s father, Noel Smith, was the second victim and is continuing to heal from his injuries, the nature of which has not been disclosed by sheriffs.
Around 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were sent to Dominion Drive in the unincorporated area of Fairhope, according to a previous release. “When deputies arrived, they located two residents of the home suffering from serious physical injuries,” it read.
The Smiths were flown to a hospital in Pensacola where Nanette died. A previous release said that Smith fled the scene in a vehicle before deputies arrived. Deputies found Smith’s vehicle on Interstate 65, northbound in Baldwin County. A vehicle pursuit ensued and ended on the interstate in Escambia County.
Smith is currently being held with no bond in Baldwin County Jail. Investigators believe all weapons used in the crime have been recovered, but they are still following up on leads, according to the release. The Medical Examiner’s office has not completed their preliminary investigation as of June 16.
The release adds that manner of death and weapon descriptions will not be released until the medical examiner completes their final report. Anyone who has information concerning the case has been urged to contact Corporal Investigator Chris Wright at (251) 972-8589.
