Mychel Stowers Obituary, Death; – The Saint Paul Police Department has made public videos documenting the encounter with a homicide suspect who was fatally shot by officers while riding a bicycle in Minnesota’s capital on Saturday, November 9.
The individual who lost his life in this incident was 36-year-old Mychel Stowers, who was sought in connection with a double homicide that occurred in October, resulting in the deaths of 35-year-old Damara Alexis Stowers and her unborn child within an apartment located on the 100 block of Sycamore St. E in St. Paul.
The footage released on Friday by the St. Paul Police Department includes various perspectives from body-worn cameras as well as the squad’s dash camera, capturing the moments leading up to, during, and immediately following the moment when two officers discharged their weapons, fatally wounding Stowers near the intersection of Bay St. and Watson Ave at approximately 1:45 p.m.
In the footage, Stowers is observed riding a bicycle; according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, he was armed with a handgun and directed it towards the officers. An officer positioned in the passenger seat of the squad vehicle fired through the windshield, seemingly hitting Stowers. He subsequently fell to the ground as the officer operating the vehicle exited and discharged several additional rounds.
The officer who fired his rifle from the passenger seat has been identified as Eric Jaworksi, while the officer driving the squad is identified as Matthew Boy. Both officers possess a decade of experience in law enforcement.
