Monica Islam Obituary, Death; – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has reported that an arrest warrant has been issued in connection with the homicide of a woman who went missing from a Shell gas station in Eustis and was subsequently discovered deceased in Mount Dora.
The victim, Monica Islam, aged 44, was murdered in May. Her remains were located by a passerby at the intersection of Wolf Branch Road and Scenic Hills Drive on the morning of May 2.
The LCSO became aware of a domestic violence incident involving Monica Islam, her spouse Rashedul Islam, and his brother Shahidul Islam in December 2024.
During this incident, it is alleged that her husband assaulted her and took jewelry and documents related to property in their native Bangladesh.
It is also alleged that Monica Islam’s brother-in-law threatened her with a firearm during the same incident. Rashedul Islam left the country prior to the issuance of an arrest warrant. The LCSO discovered that Shahidul Islam had been previously deported and had an outstanding federal immigration warrant for allegedly reentering the United States.
After the murder of Monica Islam, law enforcement managed to trace Shahidul Islam to a residence in Sanford. He reportedly escaped Sanford in a rental vehicle heading to New York, but the U.S. Marshals Service successfully apprehended him on May 6 on immigration-related charges. The homicide warrant will be executed once federal immigration processes have been completed.
