Monica Ibarra Obituary, Death; – The identity of a woman who was riding an electric scooter when she was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in San Jose on Monday morning has been disclosed by officials.
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner has identified the victim as Monica Ibarra, 52, from San Francisco.
Ibarra was riding her e-scooter at approximately 8 a.m. outside the SAP Center when she attempted to cross Santa Clara Street heading north at the Cahill Street intersection, as reported by investigators. While in the crosswalk, police stated that she was hit by a black 2021 Ram pickup truck driven by a man.
Following the incident, the vehicle promptly fled the scene, according to SJPD. The pickup truck was subsequently found abandoned away from the location of the incident.
“The vehicle was confirmed to be an unreported stolen vehicle,” police stated on Tuesday. “The driver has not been identified and remains at large.”
Ibarra was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her death represents the city’s 24th fatal collision of 2025.
