Moises Duarte Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified a 36-year-old man who was fatally stabbed last week in the Grant Hill neighborhood.
On Friday at approximately 4:46 p.m., police discovered Moises Duarte of San Diego with at least one stab wound and additional head trauma near the intersection of 27th Street and L Street, following reports of a disturbance, according to Lt. Daniel Meyer of the San Diego Police Department in a news release issued on Wednesday.
Emergency responders transported Duarte to the hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Investigators found that the victim had previously been involved in an altercation with one of the suspects related to vandalism that occurred at the same location about a month prior.
“The earlier incident was reported to the police, but the vandalism was not. When the two men encountered each other on Friday afternoon, the confrontation resumed,” Meyer stated. Authorities reported that during the earlier altercation, the suspect’s vehicle was damaged with a rock and a bat, which subsequently crashed into a pole.
A father and son, 37-year-old Emilio Torres Valencia and his 17-year-old son, were apprehended at the scene. Valencia was treated for his injuries at a hospital before being booked into county jail, while his son was taken to juvenile hall. Both individuals have since been released from custody as charges are still pending due to the ongoing investigation.
The victim’s 15-year-old son was present at the scene but is not facing any charges at this time and was released to his mother. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
