Miguel Lopez-Cuen Obituary, Death; – A 54-year-old man, who was shot by a former California Highway Patrol officer in a suspected murder-suicide incident near a gym in Stockton last week, has succumbed to his injuries, as reported by police on Wednesday.
According to Stockton police, this investigation is linked to another homicide inquiry taking place in Orange County.
On July 17, officers from the Stockton Police Department were dispatched at approximately 7:58 a.m. to the 800 block of West Eight Mile Road following reports of a shooting incident near the Elkhorn Athletic Club. Upon their arrival, officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds, as stated by the police department. They also recovered a firearm at the scene.
A 35-year-old man, later identified by the CHP as Miguel Lopez-Cuen, was declared dead at the scene. The other individual was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Stockton police have indicated that Lopez-Cuen is suspected to be the shooter and that both men were acquainted with one another. Additionally, Lopez-Cuen is suspected of having murdered his wife in Garden Grove.
The Garden Grove Police Department reported that officers conducted a welfare check at a residence on Morgan Lane after receiving a call from the couple’s daughter, who indicated that her mother required assistance.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a deceased woman inside the residence, according to Garden Grove police. Two juveniles were present at the residence, unharmed, and informed the police that they were unaware of the events that had transpired. The residence appears to be a short-term rental.
Garden Grove police confirmed that the deceased woman, Crystal Gonzales, was the wife of Lopez-Cuen, who is also the father of the two children present at the Garden Grove residence.
Lopez-Cuen was not at the residence when officers arrived, and there were no indications of forced entry into the property.
Investigators initiated a search for Lopez-Cuen and were informed by family members that his vehicle was located in Stockton.
The Garden Grove Police Department reached out to the Stockton Police Department and became aware of Lopez-Cuen’s involvement in the shooting incident on West Eight Mile Road.
