Michael Robinson Obituary, Death; – An arrest has been made in what the Metro Nashville Police are describing as a ‘completely unprovoked’ fatal shooting that occurred outside a gas station in mid-April.
According to the MNPD, Michael Robinson was fatally shot when an individual discharged rounds into the white Jeep he was operating outside Honey Suckle Market on Lafayette Street.
As per an arrest affidavit, four additional individuals were present inside the Jeep with Robinson at that time. They were in Nashville visiting from Memphis. The affidavit indicates that Robinson was exiting the parking lot of Honey Suckle Market when an individual standing beside a nearby vehicle began firing at the Jeep.
“The shooting was recorded on surveillance footage and seems to be entirely unprovoked,” the affidavit notes. Initially, the MNPD reported that a dispute had occurred among a group of men at the gas pumps prior to the gunfire.
MNPD stated that following the gunfire, the Jeep sped through the parking lot and collided with the side of the market. Both Robinson and one of his passengers sustained injuries and were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Robinson succumbed to his injuries.
Derek Randolph was identified as the alleged shooter through the surveillance footage obtained from Honey Suckle Market.
Three separate witnesses recognized Randolph in a photo lineup as the suspected shooter, according to the arrest report. Randolph, aged 25, was apprehended on Tuesday, July 29, and has been charged with one count of criminal homicide and four counts of attempted criminal homicide.
Randolph is scheduled to appear in court on July 31.
