Michael Korosa Arrested; – A man has been charged in relation to the death of a 9-year-old boy who was fatally injured during a confrontation at a CTA Green Line station last month.
On Monday, authorities announced that 52-year-old Michael Korosa from Chicago has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery.
Police reported that he was arrested on Saturday after being identified as one of the individuals suspected of assaulting 9-year-old Elijah Flores on August 10.
According to police sources, Elijah was leaving a Green Line train at approximately 11:15 a.m. accompanied by a 22-year-old male.
Authorities stated that the 22-year-old was engaged in an argument with two other men at the Clinton Station located in the 500 block of West Lake Street when, during the dispute, the two men pursued Elijah and the 22-year-old off the platform.
As per police sources, the 22-year-old carried Elijah because “he was not keeping up.”
One of the two men then struck the 22-year-old in the back with an object, resulting in both him and Elijah tumbling down a flight of stairs. Police indicated that the 22-year-old fell on top of Elijah, rendering him unconscious and fracturing his skull in the process.
Elijah was transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries six days later.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Elijah died from blunt force trauma to the head and classified his death as a homicide.
A GoFundMe campaign was established to assist Elijah’s family with medical and funeral costs.
No further details have been released regarding Korosa’s upcoming court appearance.
