Michael John Wiggins Obituary, Death; – Officials in Elizabeth City have identified the man and the police officer connected to an officer-involved shooting.
The Elizabeth City Police Department said they were called to the area of Hughes and Halstead boulevards about 12:40 p.m. on July 20. The call was in reference to a subject armed with a weapon, a press release from the police department said.
The officer was identified as James Kendrick Judge, who has been with the department for more than 20 years. Judge has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Officers on scene rendered aid until EMS arrived, the police department said. The man was taken to Albemarle Medical Center and later to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation.
