Michael Carmen Brennan Obituary, Death; – Deputies have identified the driver involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Saturday evening along North Dixie Highway, as per an updated report issued by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident took place shortly before 6 p.m. on November 16 at the intersection of 16th Avenue North and North Dixie Highway. Investigators report that the pedestrian, 78-year-old Michael Carmen Brennan from West Palm Beach, was crossing the street from east to west outside of a designated crosswalk and without wearing reflective clothing when he was hit.

The vehicle involved, initially described merely as a Honda Civic, has now been confirmed to be a 2016 Honda driven by Ana Maria Perez, 63, of Lantana. Investigators state that Perez was traveling southbound in the inside lane when the front left side of her vehicle collided with Brennan. He was thrown onto the roadway and was later pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

According to deputies, Perez did not stay at the scene after the accident. She was located and identified on November 17 as part of the ongoing investigation. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has not yet announced any charges but has confirmed that the case remains active and under review.

The report reiterates previous findings that Brennan did not yield the right of way and was not in a designated crosswalk at the time of the accident. The Sheriff’s Office continues to analyze evidence, including roadway conditions, witness statements, and the driver’s actions following the impact.

This incident adds to the increasing concern along the North Dixie Highway corridor, where a combination of pedestrian activity, inadequate lighting, and multilane traffic patterns has led to a rise in serious and fatal accidents.
