Michael A Lofton Obituary, Death; – Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook has ruled the death of a man struck by a train on Erie’s west side July 6 accidental.

Cook identified the man July 9 as Michael A. Lofton, 47, whose last known address was in Mercer. Lofton was pronounced dead after authorities said he was struck shortly after 5 a.m. July 6 by an eastbound Norfolk Southern freight train in the area of West 14th and Poplar streets.

Train employees reportedly saw Lofton on the tracks and blew the train’s horn, and Lofton attempted to get up but was unable to get out of the way, Erie police reported after the accident.
