Matthew P Manthe Obituary, Death; – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday night in Kewanee, police said.
At approximately 10:11 p.m. on July 20, officers from the Kewanee Police Department were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. South Street for a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident. Deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist.
When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Matthew P. Manthe of Kewanee, and immediately began life-saving efforts. Kewanee Fire Department EMS arrived and continued resuscitation efforts. Manthe was transported to a local hospital before being flown to a regional hospital for treatment, where he died from his injuries.
The vehicle involved in the crash was driven by a 17-year-old, who was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. A Kewanee Police Department accident reconstructionist responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
The Peoria County Coroner’s Office is handling the investigation into the cause of death.
