Matthew Nino Fonseca Obituary, Death; – A suspect has been apprehended in relation to a shooting incident that occurred over the weekend in Fort Worth, which was initially reported as a potential suicide, as stated by police and court documents.

Jonathan Martinez, aged 24, is facing a murder charge linked to the shooting, according to Fort Worth police on Tuesday. He is currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail with a bond set at $150,000, as per jail records.

Matthew Nino Fonseca, also 24, succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained around 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.
Fonseca was discovered by police while they were responding to a report of a possible suicide in the 3000 block of Conejos Drive, as reported by the police.

Subsequently, officers were informed that citizens had made “several additional shots fired calls,” according to police. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement determined that Fonseca had been shot multiple times and seemingly concluded that “the male did not shoot himself,” as indicated in an arrest warrant affidavit for Fonseca.

Investigators later found that earlier that evening, Fonseca had been with a group, including his “on and off again” girlfriend, inside a vehicle, as detailed in the affidavit.

During the car journey, the driver had to stop the vehicle to prevent Fonseca from assaulting his girlfriend, as stated by detectives in the affidavit. Later that night, Fonseca consented to meet one of the passengers from the vehicle to return a forgotten phone, according to the affidavit.

However, when the passenger arrived they found Fonseca dead in his vehicle, according to the affidavit. They then called 911, believing Fonseca had shot himself. But Martinez admitted to shooting Fonseca during an interview with detectives, police said in the affidavit.

Martinez had learned about the possible assault in the vehicle earlier that night. One of the passengers had been in a previous relationship with Martinez for nine years, according to the affidavit. The passenger had asked Martinez to “stand by” as they met up with Fonseca due to him assaulting his girlfriend earlier.

Martinez said to police that he and Fonseca had “ongoing problems.” Fonseca’s girlfriend had also been assaulted before by Fonseca, Martinez told police, according to the affidavit. When Martinez saw Fonseca, he “blacked out and began shooting,” police said in the affidavit. The gun used in Fonseca’s slaying was thrown into Lake Worth, according to court records.

It was a violent weekend with five fatalities reported in Fort Worth over Father’s Day. Police on Tuesday identified another victim from the string of deadly attacks. Around 9:10 a.m. Sunday, James Lynn Marshall, 28, died after he was fatally shot in the backyard of a residence in the 3000 block of Forest Avenue, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Detectives discovered that prior to the shooting, Marshall was involved in a “verbal argument with an unknown suspect,” police previously said in a news release. Police have not said if they have identified a suspect in that slaying.
