Emergency life-saving measures were administered at the scene before Daines was transported to Utah Valley Hospital; however, police later reported that he succumbed to his injuries.

On Thursday afternoon, Springville police released a statement from Daines’ family regarding his passing, which reads:

“No words can adequately convey our profound sense of loss following the sudden and unexpected death of our son, Matthew Daines. The incident that took him from us and this Earth was due to human error, yet it does not diminish the strength and love of the Almighty, in whose wisdom we choose to place our trust. In our deep sorrow, we urge against any desire for retribution towards anyone.

We kindly request that all individuals and parties not directly involved in this tragic situation respect our need for privacy as we navigate our grief and make necessary arrangements moving forward.”

As per court documents, the alleged driver, Travis McIntyre, 41, from Tooele, has been arrested on suspicion of ten charges, including automobile homicide and driving under the influence, and has been booked into the Utah County Jail.

Police indicated in a probable cause affidavit that they found alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle, and McIntyre was reportedly unable to stand or complete standardized field sobriety tests.

Family members have initiated a GoFundMe campaign in Daines’ honor, describing him as a protector who cherished his family and loved ones.

“Thank you for honoring Matthew’s memory. We aspire to continue his legacy of goodness,” states the crowd fundraiser.
