Mason Bates Arrested; – A 20-year-old individual has been taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including murder, according to the Atlanta Police Department. This follows his involvement in a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning, resulting in one fatality and another person injured.
Mason Bates, who was also injured during the incident, has not yet been transferred to the Fulton County Jail as he is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The shooting took place on Jonesboro Road in the Lakewood Heights area of Atlanta. Officers from the Atlanta Police Department responded to the scene shortly before 1 a.m. at a location associated with the Little Bear food mart, where they discovered two men who had sustained gunshot wounds, aged 45 and 38.
Both victims were transported to a hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save him, the 45-year-old victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff, as stated in a police report.
Shortly thereafter, law enforcement located Bates, who had sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen and leg. The police report indicated that preliminary investigations suggest all three men were involved in the same incident. Investigators from the Homicide Unit have been assigned to the case to ascertain the details surrounding the shooting.
The Atlanta Police Department has not provided specific information regarding the events that led to the shooting of all three individuals. Once Bates receives medical clearance, he will be transferred to Fulton County Jail. His charges include aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, in addition to the murder charge. It is noteworthy that a 32-year-old man was also shot and killed outside the Little Bear food mart in February 2023.
