Mary Claire Hartman Obituary, Death;- New Haven police have indicated that an arrest is probable in connection with the death of a 56-year-old woman who was fatally injured while crossing the street early on Saturday.
According to Officer Christian Bruckhart, a spokesman for the New Haven police, Mary Claire Hartman was crossing Chapel Street at Temple Street shortly after 12 a.m. on Saturday when a Honda minivan ran a red light and collided with her.
Bruckhart was unable to confirm whether Hartman was in a crosswalk but noted that pedestrians do traverse that area. City firefighters, along with a team from American Medical Response, provided assistance; however, officials reported that Hartman was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at Yale New Haven Hospital.
The driver of the Honda, a man in his 40s, stopped at the scene of the accident and has been cooperative with law enforcement, as stated by the police. “We are aware of his identity and do not consider him to be a flight risk,” Bruckhart remarked. “These are extremely serious charges in a case involving a fatal collision.”
