Marvin Morales Obituary, Death; – A man who was fleeing from a residence in the Sacramento area, where a child had been murdered, was shot and killed on Tuesday by an officer from the California Highway Patrol. The individual has been identified as Marvin Morales, 40, who was the father of the child and a former deputy with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Elk Grove police, a woman contacted them shortly after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, expressing concern for the safety of her two children, who were at home with their father.
Upon the officers’ arrival at the residence, they discovered that an 11-year-old child had been stabbed, while a 6-year-old child was found unharmed. Morales was not present at the location.
A vehicle believed to belong to Morales was observed by a law enforcement officer traveling southbound on Interstate 5, prompting the CHP to initiate a pursuit. As the vehicle approached Stockton, south of Highway 12, it struck spike strips deployed by the CHP and subsequently crashed.
Following the crash, a CHP officer fatally shot Morales.
The agency has not disclosed specific details regarding the shooting, including whether Morales was believed to be armed at the time. The Elk Grove Police Department will oversee the investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the 11-year-old child was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Morales had resigned from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in 2024 after an internal affairs investigation concluded that he had ingested fentanyl taken from a suspect.
A video showing Morales unconscious on the bathroom floor of the sheriff’s office in 2023 gained significant attention online, depicting deputies administering the opioid overdose reversal medication naloxone to him.
