Marques Mills Obituary, Death; Two men face murder charges in a deadly shooting in Neptune Township

Marques Mills Obituary, Death; – Two individuals have been charged by a Grand Jury in Monmouth County regarding the fatal shooting of a Neptune Township resident in May 2022, as announced by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago on Monday.

Kedrick Chatmon, 37, from Keansburg, and Lamare R. Walker, 45, from Barnegat, face indictments for first-degree murder and first-degree conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the death of 39-year-old Marques Mills. Additionally, Chatmon has been indicted on further weapons-related charges.

On the evening of May 14, 2022, police in Neptune Township responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Hillview Drive and Edgemere Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mills inside a vehicle parked in his driveway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was subsequently transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.

A collaborative investigation conducted by the Major Crimes Bureau of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Neptune Township Police Department led to the identification of Chatmon and Walker as suspects. Both were arrested on November 21, 2024, with Chatmon apprehended in Keansburg and Walker in Barnegat. The arrests were executed by local law enforcement in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Chatmon and Walker are currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, awaiting detention hearings set for December 3, 2024, before Judge Jill G. O’Malley.
