Lorraine Reyna,Paul Olivares Obituary, Death; – Authorities in Indiana have apprehended a man who allegedly opened fire on a crowd outside a bar over the weekend, resulting in the deaths of two patrons and injuries to his girlfriend and two others.

Lieutenant Captain Steve Kellogg of the Hammond Police Department informed USA TODAY that 31-year-old Caprice Edward Cashaw from Merrillville was arrested in connection with the early Sunday morning shooting at Portside Pub in Hammond, located in Lake County, just south of Lake Michigan.

On Friday, the Lake County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victims as 59-year-old Lorraine Reyna and 25-year-old Paul Olivares, both residents of Whiting, Indiana, a city within Lake County that is part of the Chicago Metropolitan area.

A press release from the coroner’s office stated that both individuals succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, and their deaths were ruled homicides.

Police reported that around 4:15 a.m., they responded to gunfire reports at the bar and discovered five individuals had been shot. Three victims were transported to a local hospital, with two in serious condition and one in stable condition.

Reyna, a patron of the bar, and Olivares, who was bartending during the incident, were pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, four of the shooting victims—Olivares, Reyna, and two other patrons—were “bravely attempting to assist the female involved in the domestic situation,” as stated in a Hammond police Facebook post. “Their heroic efforts to prevent the situation from escalating were met with violence.”

Following the investigation, Cashaw was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including murder and attempted murder. Reports from The Chicago Tribune and WG9-TV indicate that Cashaw lost a significant amount of money at the Horseshoe Hammond Casino prior to the shooting and allegedly began assaulting his girlfriend while driving back from the casino.

At some point, Cashaw stopped in front of the pub and continued his assault on her, according to law enforcement sources.
