Lloyd Tremaine Cooks Arrested; Man found guilty of shooting other man to death during drug deal at Shreveport gas station

Lloyd Tremaine Cooks Arrested; – A man from Shreveport, who fatally shot another individual during a drug transaction that went awry, was convicted of second-degree murder by a jury in Caddo Parish on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Lloyd Tremaine Cooks, aged 21, was found guilty by a jury composed of four men and eight women after approximately two hours of deliberation. They concluded that on the evening of June 25, 2022, Cooks met the victim, Jeremy “Ruru” Wyatt, 31, at a local gas station to buy marijuana.

Before the transaction could be completed, Cooks exited his vehicle and discharged over twenty shots from two firearms at Wyatt, resulting in Wyatt’s death. A passenger from Wyatt’s car provided testimony, along with responding officers and SPD investigators. A forensic pathologist confirmed that Wyatt succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds inflicted by both a pistol and a rifle.

Cooks provided a statement to the officers, acknowledging that he had arranged the drug deal, approached Wyatt’s vehicle, and shot at Wyatt multiple times. Parts of the incident were also recorded by nearby surveillance cameras.
When Cooks returns to Judge Victory’s court on August 11, he is facing a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of the sentence.
