Lewis Earl Fender Obituary, Death; – A 40-year-old man was convicted of manslaughter on Friday related to a collision that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist in 2022.
Federico Chavez is facing a prison sentence ranging from two to 20 years. The sentencing phase is currently in progress. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on September 5 near Loop 1604 and U.S. Highway 181.
According to Bexar County sheriff’s deputies, the driver of a pickup truck, later identified as Chavez, collided with and ran over a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, Lewis Earl Fender, aged 58, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and subsequently passed away, as reported by authorities.
The sheriff’s office found that Chavez was driving in a reckless manner, which played a role in the accident. Witnesses informed investigators that Chavez overtook vehicles in a no-passing zone, drove at excessive speeds, failed to yield, and tailgated the motorcycle. Additionally, BCSO reported that there were open containers of alcoholic beverages found inside Chavez’s vehicle.
