Laura Ramirez-Gonzalez,Emily Sanchez-Ramirez Obituary, Death; – Metro Nashville police are actively pursuing a man implicated in a collision that resulted in the death of a 10-year-old girl and injuries to her mother over the weekend.
Authorities have confirmed that 39-year-old Walter Daneris Zuniga, also known as Daneri Varela and originally from Honduras, was the driver of the red Nissan Sentra involved in the fatal incident on Nolensville Pike on Saturday night.
The accident claimed the life of 10-year-old Emily Sanchez-Ramirez and left her mother, 28-year-old Laura Ramirez-Gonzalez, in critical condition while they were riding an electric scooter in the designated bike lane.
The Metro Nashville Police Department has issued nine warrants for Zuniga, including charges of vehicular homicide by reckless conduct, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and evidence tampering. Emily succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, while her mother remains hospitalized in critical condition.
According to the MNPD, the damaged red Nissan Sentra linked to the incident was located at Zuniga’s residence on Radnor Street on Monday, following a tip to Crime Stoppers. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Zuniga’s location to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
The victims’ family informed WSMV4’s Dryden Quigley that the mother and daughter emigrated from Colombia to Nashville approximately 10 months ago.
Emily was a fifth-grade student at Tusculum Elementary School, known for her love of swimming and playing with friends. Her aunt described her as a calm and curious child. A fundraiser has been established to assist the family, which can be accessed here.
