Laci Whitson Obituary, Death; – A man from west Alabama has admitted guilt in the murder of a young mother, whose remains were found in Fayette County last summer, and he is sentenced to spend the remainder of his life in prison.
Andy Hamlin, the district attorney for Fayette County, reported that 37-year-old Michael Wade Tucker has confessed to the murder of 21-year-old Laci Whitson last July, after wrapping her body in a blanket and concealing it near his residence.
Whitson was reported missing after she left a rehabilitation center in Lauderdale County with Tucker last July, and her body was discovered days later, hidden in a boat on his property located on County Road 52.
Tucker entered his guilty plea on Friday morning, and Hamlin stated that Judge Sam Junkin has sentenced him to life imprisonment, which is the maximum sentence allowable for murder.
“This was a horrific and senseless crime, and while nothing can alleviate the suffering that Laci’s family continues to endure, I hope this plea offers them some degree of justice and solace,” Hamlin remarked. “I would like to express my gratitude to her family for their resilience and patience as we navigated through this investigation and the judicial process. Our prayers remain with them.”
“We are immensely thankful to the witnesses who stepped forward and to the law enforcement agencies that diligently worked on this case,” he added. “Thanks to their dedication, we were able to construct a robust case that left the defendant with no option but to plead guilty.
