Kevin Doherty Obituary, Death;- Snehal Srivastava, the individual charged with the shooting death of a father who had just dropped off his son at school in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was ordered to be held without bail on Friday.
Srivastava, 26, concealed himself behind a door during his arraignment in Westboro District Court on multiple charges, including armed assault with the intent to murder.
According to investigators, 57-year-old Kevin Doherty had just left his 6-year-old son at school on Thursday morning when he noticed a man spray-painting graffiti on a path over Jordan Pond. Worcester District Attorney Joe Early reported that Doherty took a photograph of the individual, later identified as Srivastava. An argument ensued, and Doherty called 911.
While he was on the line with the police, Doherty was shot multiple times. He was quickly transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Heavily armed police subsequently flooded the neighborhood in search of the suspected shooter. Officers utilized drones to locate Srivastava at his nearby graffiti-covered residence and apprehended him.
Early stated that Srivastava was already known to law enforcement and had been involved in another incident in Westboro in 2022, which was dismissed the previous month. Authorities indicated that Srivastava did not possess a license to carry a firearm.
It remains unclear whether Srivastava and Doherty were acquainted. Srivastava is scheduled to return to court on September 12.
