Kayla Blake,Kennedi McWhorter Obituary, Death; – New details are emerging regarding the murders of a mother and daughter in Rowan County.
Joshua Cottrell faces charges for the deaths of Kayla Blake and Kennedi McWhorter.
As stated in a criminal complaint, he is accused of stabbing both Kayla and Kennedi. State troopers discovered their bodies on Friday morning at their residence.
The complaint warrant indicates that Cottrell also relocated the bodies. Subsequently, police found him with blood on his clothing. He was apprehended at a hospital in Paducah. Cottrell is currently detained in the McCracken County jail with a bond set at $1 million.
Court documents reveal that he was arraigned on Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock.
Kentucky State Police have not disclosed the circumstances leading to Blake and McWhorter’s deaths. However, it is known that there was a connection to Cottrell. Friends of Blake have reported that she and Cottrell were in a relationship, although Blake had assured them that “things were good, and they were happy.”
According to court records, Cottrell was also charged in the 2003 murder of Richie Phillips. He confessed to killing Phillips and concealing his body in a suitcase.
He received a 20-year sentence in that case. Officials have stated that he was released to Mandatory Reentry Supervision in March 2019, which concluded in October 2019.
