Kathleen Murphy Obituary, Death; – Police have identified the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle on the grounds of Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze on Wednesday morning as Kathleen Murphy, 64, from Willowbrook.
According to a spokesperson for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, Murphy was walking from the parking lot towards the building located at 242 Mason Ave. when she was hit by a Volkswagen SUV at approximately 6:45 a.m. The investigation conducted by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad revealed that a 67-year-old man was operating the Volkswagen, traveling southwest on the access road of the parking lot, when he collided with Murphy, who was walking northbound.
A representative for Staten Island University Hospital expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, stating, “We are profoundly saddened by the devastating event that occurred today at Staten Island University Hospital. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family and our team members during this difficult time. We remain committed to supporting everyone affected as they navigate through this tragedy. Furthermore, we are fully cooperating with authorities in their ongoing investigation.”
A source informed the Advance/SILive.com that Murphy was employed by the hospital, although this detail has not been immediately confirmed by the spokeswoman. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is still active, according to police.
