Katerrius Sparks Obituary, Death; – A 3-year-old child tragically passed away after being left unattended in a vehicle while under the supervision of a contractor for the Alabama Department of Human Resources, as reported by the Birmingham Police Department in a press release.
Katerrius Sparks, a resident of Bessemer, lost his life on July 22, according to police reports.
The contractor involved, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police, is reportedly cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, as stated by law enforcement officials. The contractor was “transported to the Birmingham Police Headquarters for questioning,” according to police statements.
Law enforcement was alerted and dispatched to the 1500 block of Pine Tree Drive at approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 22.
“Katerrius was accidentally left inside of a vehicle while in the care of a third-party contracted worker through the Department of Human Resources,” the police stated. “Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.”
The Jefferson County Coroner has confirmed the child’s identity, as reported by the police. Newschin has contacted the attorney representing the boy’s family for further comments.
