Kat Sirico Obituary, Death; – A production manager assisting in the relocation of staging platforms at Jacob’s Pillow, a renowned dance center located in Becket, Massachusetts, tragically lost their life when the load collapsed on Friday afternoon, as reported by both the center and local authorities.
The deceased, identified by Jacob’s Pillow as Kat Sirico, was utilizing a dolly alongside an intern to move the theater staging platforms across the premises, according to a statement released by the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office on Saturday.
The incident has been classified as a workplace accident, and it is not anticipated that any criminal charges will be pursued.
The two individuals involved in moving the platforms lost control of the dolly while attempting to roll it down a slope, as stated by the district attorney’s office.
Sirico, who identifies with the pronouns they/them, as noted in their LinkedIn profile and by the center, attempted to regain control of the dolly but unfortunately tripped and fell, resulting in the dolly rolling over them, according to the district attorney’s office.
The platforms on the dolly subsequently fell onto Sirico, as further detailed in the statement. Bystanders attempted to perform lifesaving measures, and emergency medical personnel along with law enforcement responded promptly to the scene.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the center described Sirico’s death as “a tragic accident.” The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is currently conducting an investigation, as mentioned in the statement.
Jacob’s Pillow has announced the cancellation of all performances and events at the center from Friday through Sunday.
Sirico was an alumnus of Jacob’s Pillow, as stated by the center, and had been serving as a production manager for the Dance Festival at the recently reopened Doris Duke Theater since February.
Previously, Sirico had worked for the Dance Festival, including last year in the role of event production manager. They also served as a production intern two decades ago and had been an independent contractor for Jacob’s Pillow, according to a spokesperson for the center.
Pamela Tatge, the executive and artistic director of Jacob’s Pillow, expressed condolences and highlighted the impact of this loss.
