Karim Talib Obituary, Death;- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has disclosed the identity of an 82-year-old man who passed away while in custody earlier this week.
On Monday, July 28, deputies and a facility nurse found Karim Talib, 82, unresponsive in his cell at the San Diego Central Jail. He was discovered at approximately 8:40 a.m. during the distribution of medication by the nurse and deputies.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies promptly dialed 9-1-1, sought additional assistance from the facility’s medical personnel, and initiated CPR. Despite their life-saving efforts, Talib was declared dead at 9:10 a.m.
Talib had been taken into custody on May 27 and was facing charges including mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, and elder abuse, as reported by authorities. At the time of his death, there was an ongoing court hearing concerning his “mental competency,” as stated by the sheriff’s office.
“The San Diego Sheriff’s Office expresses its condolences to the Talib family and all individuals impacted by Mr. Talib’s death,” the department mentioned in a news release. “A Sheriff’s Family Liaison Officer will continue to assist the family as they navigate this challenging period.”
The sheriff’s Homicide Unit is carrying out an investigation into the incident, following the protocol for all deaths occurring in custody. The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office will determine and release the cause and manner of Talib’s death.
