Justin Rhine Obituary, Death; – The Louisiana State Police have confirmed the identity of the individual who was fatally shot during an encounter with law enforcement in New Iberia as 30-year-old Justin Rhine. The event took place on the evening of April 30, 2025, at the junction of Ann Street and Buckeye Street.
According to the Louisiana State Police, officers from the New Iberia Police Department, along with deputies from the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, were attempting to apprehend Rhine under an Order of Protective Custody, a legal directive typically issued when an individual is deemed a potential threat to themselves or others.
Upon contact with the officers, Rhine allegedly fled the scene. During the ensuing chase, authorities report that he brandished a firearm, which led NIPD officers to discharge their service weapons. Rhine was struck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene, with no officers sustaining injuries. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab has processed the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
The investigation is still active, and officials have indicated that further information will be released as the case progresses.
