Justin Aguila,Angel Martinez Obituary, Death; – In an update Tuesday afternoon, the Sparks Police Department is identifying the suspect behind the deadly shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort as 26-year-old Dakota Hawver of Reno. Police also tell us Hawver does not have any criminal history, or any record of mental health struggles.
Officials are also releasing the names of the victims who died in the shooting:
- Justin Aguila, 33, from Southern California
- Andrew Canepa, 33, from Southern California
- Angel Martinez, 66, from the Reno-Sparks area
According to investigators, Aguila and Canepa were in town for a bachelor party. Hawver allegedly shot them from behind while they were waiting in the valet area for a ride to the airport. SPD also says Hawver hid behind a vehicle and ambushed Martinez, while Martinez was driving his vehicle through the parking lot. Investigators have not yet determined a connection between Hawver and the victims. His motive is also unknown at this time.
According to a recent update, Hawver fired around 80 rounds during the incident. He reportedly legally purchased the handgun used in the shooting two years ago, and only recently purchased the ammunition.
Hawver is now in critical condition in the hospital. Two unidentified victims are also hospitalized, and are expected to make a full recovery.
