Julian Garcia Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified the individual who was shot and killed in southwest Fresno.
A group of friends engaged in bar hopping on Thursday evening before proceeding to a gathering at an apartment complex located off South Plumas and East Lorena Avenue. It was at this location that the lively gathering tragically concluded.
“There were several couples enjoying their evening. They had visited multiple bars throughout the city and opted to continue their socializing at one of the couples’ apartments,” states Chief Mindy Casto of the Fresno Police Department.
As the party extended into the early morning hours, a confrontation escalated between 27-year-old Julian Garcia and an unidentified suspect. “He had previously argued with one of the males in the group at the bar. When they arrived at the complex, the argument seemed to reignite,” Chief Casto explains.
According to police, around 2 a.m., Garcia initiated the physical altercation, but rather than using his fists, the suspect brandished a firearm and discharged it.
27-year-old Garcia was swiftly transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The remnants of the party were left scattered in the parking lot. The complex is home to families who awoke to a crime scene.
“It was frightening when I saw them washing the area. I thought it was a shooting,” remarked Maricella, a neighbor, “It shouldn’t be like this; it’s a life, and they were so young.” The circumstances leading to the altercation remain unclear, but police indicate that the two individuals were acquainted. The gunman is currently at large.
“The suspect departed the scene in a red vehicle accompanied by his girlfriend. He is described as a Hispanic male in his 30s,” Chief Casto reports. An investigation is now in progress as police seek surveillance footage and evidence from the scene. This incident occurred in a densely populated area, prompting police to urge anyone with information to come forward and contact their department.
