Juan Pablo Rios Aguilar Obituary, Death;- A man lost his life in a collision involving a Garland police officer on Friday morning, as confirmed by the department.

The Garland Police Department reported that one of its officers had “just left the police station” and was heading east on the 1500 block of W. State Street at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Friday when their vehicle collided with a truck that was stationary in the eastbound lanes of the road near the intersection with McKinley Street.

According to police, the truck was “blocking the entire eastbound lane of traffic” and its lights were off at the time of the incident. The police department’s press release regarding the event also mentions that a man, who “was standing at the front of the vehicle in the middle of the road,” was struck during the collision.

Officials stated that following the collision, the man — later identified as 32-year-old Juan Pablo Rios Aguilar — was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The officer involved in the incident was also taken to a hospital for treatment and was subsequently released, as indicated in the press release.

The press release highlights that “the officer attempted to avoid the collision but struck the truck and the male.” It also mentioned that “it was dark at the time of the crash.”

Records indicate that Rios Aguilar lived in a residence situated at the intersection of State Street and McKinley Street, where the crash took place. Maps reveal that this location is approximately half a mile from the Garland Police Station located at 1891 Forest Lane.

“This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with everyone affected as the investigation continues,” stated Garland police.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, according to Garland PD.
