Juan Melesio Obituary, Death; – A man has been apprehended on charges of driving while intoxicated after reportedly striking and fatally injuring a pedestrian in southeast Austin on Sunday morning. As per the Austin Police Department, officers arrived at the scene of the accident in the 2000 block of E. Riverside Drive at approximately 6:49 a.m. on December 15.
The pedestrian, identified as 47-year-old Juan Melesio, was declared dead at the scene. The driver, 30-year-old Ali-Mbemba Kembilu, faces charges of driving under the influence. This incident is being treated as the 88th fatal accident in Austin for the year 2024, which has resulted in a total of 94 fatalities. In comparison, on the same date in 2023, there were 87 fatal accidents leading to 90 deaths.
