Juan Manuel Duran Obituary, Death; – A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on West Amarillo Boulevard Tuesday evening, police said.
The crash took place July 22 in the 4700 block of West Amarillo Boulevard. Officers were dispatched to the scene at about 8:51 p.m. and found a red 1964 Ford van that had overturned in the center median. The driver had been ejected and was laying on the grass just east of the van.
The driver, identified as Juan Manuel Duran, 77, died at the scene from injuries he sustained in the crash, and he was the only person in the vehicle.
Officers learned the van had been traveling west on Amarillo Boulevard when it suddenly left the roadway to the north. Duran overcorrected, causing the van to lose control and go into the center median. The vehicle then rolled, with Duran, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.
Duran’s family has been notified. Potter County Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones ordered an autopsy. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
