Joshua Al-Lateef GENERAL; – Public safety officials in Ohio have located the body of a 6-year-old boy who had been reported missing on Wednesday. Authorities from the police and fire departments in West Chester Township announced late Thursday evening that the body of Joshua Al-Lateef was discovered in a lake.

“All public safety personnel in Butler County are mourning with the family tonight, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to them during this difficult time,” stated West Chester Township Fire Chief Rick Prinz.

Joshua, who was set to celebrate his 7th birthday next week, was last seen at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday near his family’s residence on Wyndtree Drive, according to police reports. His older brother dialed 911 to report him missing, as indicated by a recording of the emergency call.

Numerous volunteers searched through tree lines, dumpsters, and other potential hiding spots where the boy might have sought refuge from the cold. First responders utilized drones and had personnel on the ground.

Prior to the discovery of the boy’s body, Prinz had mentioned that Joshua, who officials noted was autistic, might have been drawn to water, which could have led him to one of the retention ponds located within the apartment complex grounds.

“They organize the lake into a grid pattern and search each section methodically, with teams both in and on the water using boats,” Prinz explained. Lindsay Amyx was one of the volunteers who participated in the search. As a mother, she felt compelled to assist.

“I have two children, and I can only imagine what this mother is experiencing. I have a 19-year-old son who is also autistic, so my heart goes out to them, especially knowing how cold it is outside,” Amyx expressed. “I truly wanted to help him and his family.” Earlier on Thursday, police indicated that there was no evidence suggesting foul play, although the investigation remains active.
