Josh Allen Obituary, Death; – Sioux Falls Police have identified a second suspect in connection with a recent homicide at Dunham Park, following the arrest of a local man.
Walter Deshawn Stewart, aged 32, has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder, one count of First Degree Attempted Murder, and two counts of Aggravated Assault. He was apprehended without incident on Friday. During a police briefing on Monday, Lt. Aaron Nyberg announced that an arrest warrant has been issued for Lamont Burks Jr.
Burks, who is also facing the same charges as Stewart, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree attempted murder, and two counts of aggravated assault.
In August, law enforcement responded to Dunham Park in the western part of the city, where they discovered 29-year-old Josh Allen deceased from gunshot wounds, along with several others who sustained injuries. Lt. Nyberg indicated that multiple firearms were involved in the incident, but he refrained from disclosing which suspect is believed to have shot Allen.
Burks is described as a 28-year-old African American male, approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 210 pounds. Residents who may see Burks or possess information regarding his whereabouts are advised not to approach him and to contact the Sioux Falls Police Department.
Lt. Nyberg confirmed that a warrant task force is actively engaged in efforts to locate Burks. In an interview with Dakota News Now, Allen’s family expressed relief at Stewart’s arrest, yet voiced frustration over learning about it through the Minnehaha County inmate list.
“Law enforcement didn’t call me. I had to do the calling to them,” stated Paris McAbee, the mother of Josh Allen. Stewart is currently being held on a cash-only bond of $1 million, with his initial court appearance rescheduled to Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
