Joseph Goodwin Obituary, Death; – The family of a man who was shot and killed in Selma in 2023 is hopeful that someone may have information to help bring the perpetrator to justice.
Joseph Goodwin, aged 23, was fatally shot in May 2023. According to police reports, he was shot in the chest and subsequently burned in his vehicle. Prior to his untimely death, he had been employed as a welder. “He was just a sweetheart,” remarked his aunt, Angela Goodwin, in an interview with Action 8 News. “If you look at him, he still had the face of a baby.”
Investigators have identified a suspect, Deonte Olds, who is currently 26 years old. They have been actively searching for him for almost two years and suspect he may have been in the Atlanta area during the fall of 2023. Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
“This individual is dangerous,” stated Tony Garrett from Central Alabama CrimeStoppers. “He has the capability to shoot someone and then set their vehicle on fire. It is imperative that he is removed from the streets, and we hope he sees this and decides to turn himself in.”
Goodwin expressed the difficulty her family has faced due to the prolonged lack of answers. “Let us all keep our fingers crossed, pray, and ask God for the strength to endure this, even after he is apprehended, as the quest for justice does not simply conclude, and we seek to bring him to justice,” she said.
