Jose Antonio Alvarado Arrested; – A male discovered deceased within a burning residence in Jefferson County has been identified as a homicide victim, and a teenager from north Alabama has been charged in connection with the case.
Jose Antonio Alvarado, an 18-year-old residing in Elkmont, faces charges of murder and second-degree arson, as announced by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Friday. Officials from the sheriff’s department and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office have stated that the victim has yet to be identified.
Firefighters from Graysville and Adamsville were called to the scene on Sunday night, responding to reports of a fire at a house located in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue S.W. in Graysville. The fire was reported around 9:30 p.m. According to Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby, first responders arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames.
After the fire was extinguished, a male was discovered inside the structure. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m. Sheriff’s detectives, along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, responded to the incident. Further details regarding the investigation have not been disclosed, including the circumstances surrounding the unidentified victim’s death.
Irby reported that Alvarado was apprehended on Thursday. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 6:05 p.m. and is currently being held without bond. This victim marks the 48th homicide recorded in the county this year.
