Jordan Hansen Obituary, Death; – Jordan Hansen, 25, from Mattapoisett, passed away on Friday, July 25, after suffering life-threatening injuries in a car accident that occurred in Wareham.
At approximately 5:05 p.m., Raymond Cardoza, a 67-year-old resident of Wareham, collided his Hyundai Sonata with Hansen’s motorcycle on Route 28, close to Wareham Ford and Robertson’s GMC.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Cardoza, who was under the influence of alcohol, made a left turn from Cranberry Highway onto Monterio Street, directly in front of Hansen.
Upon arrival, police discovered Hansen unresponsive on the ground, exhibiting life-threatening injuries and struggling to breathe. He was first transported to Tobey Hospital and subsequently to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Hansen graduated from Old Rochester Regional High School in 2018 and later attended MassBay Community College. His Facebook profile indicates that he began his employment at Robertson’s GMC in 2019.
Cardoza, who fled the accident scene, was located a quarter-mile away at his sister’s home on Mattos Avenue. When officers arrived at the residence, they identified Cardoza, who admitted to driving the Sonata.
Cardoza informed the officers that he had been drinking and left the scene out of fear. During the interviews, multiple officers noted a strong smell of alcohol on Cardoza’s breath.
“I know I shouldn’t have been driving anyway,” Cardoza told responding Police Officer Blaise Lalli, “It’s my birthday.”
On Monday, July 28, Cardoza was arraigned in Wareham District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of operating under the influence, operating under the influence causing death, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and driving with a suspended license. He is currently being held on a cash bail of $250,000.
Cardoza has a history of three prior arrests for operating while intoxicated, occurring in 2013, 1999, and 1985. However, none of these previous charges were considered during the arraignment due to the statute of limitations.
Family members of both Cardoza and Hansen were present in court on Monday.
