Jon Nichols Obituary, Death; – A hunting guide was fatally shot during an elk hunting expedition in northeastern Oregon, as reported by local deputies.
The incident occurred prior to 8 a.m. on November 10, near the town of Halfway, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office. Jon Nichols, aged 62, was leading a hunting group consisting of two other individuals on private land adjacent to Fish Creek, deputies indicated.
The trio was traveling together in a side-by-side vehicle when they encountered a herd of elk. Upon exiting the vehicle, one of the men allegedly loaded a round into his rifle, which discharged accidentally, striking Nichols in the back. Despite the men administering CPR, Nichols was pronounced dead upon the arrival of deputies. The sheriff’s office has stated that the investigation is still in progress.
