John Combs Obituary, Death; – Chris Combs characterizes his son, John, as a cheerful, accomplished, and diligent individual capable of resolving any challenge. This portrayal renders the events surrounding the younger Combs all the more perplexing.

On October 2, John Combs, a lineman engaged in storm recovery efforts in Savannah, Georgia, was taken to the hospital due to unusual behavior, as reported by his father. Later that night, Chris received an unsettling text from John.

According to John Combs' father, Chris, this is the narrative given to him on his son's death...

The message read, “I’ve lied about everything in my life, I have no idea what is real and what is not, I want to come home,” his father recounted, emphasizing that he had never observed any signs of suicidal thoughts in his son prior to his hospitalization. Chris noted that returning home was indeed the intention, and that John “removed his IVs, dressed himself, and exited” the hospital. Subsequently, John rented a car and headed to an Atlanta airport, intending to board a flight back to Illinois. However, his erratic conduct disrupted this plan.

“He was taken out of the boarding process within 5 to 10 minutes of attempting to board the plane; otherwise, he would have made it home,” Chris clarified.

After departing the airport, John traveled to Montgomery, though the specifics of his journey remain unclear. The following evening, on Friday, October 4, he was discovered deceased after being struck by a train approximately one mile from Montgomery Regional Airport.

According to a police report provided to Chris Combs, a railroad employee supplied law enforcement with footage of the incident, revealing that John’s body was located beneath the train. Upon reviewing financial records, John’s father discovered that his son had utilized his card for two Uber rides, as well as at a Burger King on Carmichael Road and a CVS store in Pike Road just hours before his death.

“They had video footage. He entered CVS carrying his backpack,” John’s father detailed. “He bought some water at a self-checkout, then exited and re-entered without his backpack, which struck me as peculiar, and made another purchase.”
