Joanna Rogers Obituary, Death; – Police officers in Lewisville shot to death a woman who held a handgun as they tried to arrest her early Thursday, the police department said.
A Lewisville officer about midnight conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in which the driver was suspected of having a felony warrant.
The driver, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 43-year-old Joanna Rogers, sped from the traffic stop, police said. She was alone.
Police chased Rogers through multiple jurisdictions in North Texas. During the pursuit, Rogers caused a collision with a Lewisville Police Department patrol vehicle and continued to flee, police said. The officer involved in that crash was not injured. The chase ended in a commercial parking lot in the 2200 block of the southbound I-35E service road in Lewisville.
Rogers had a handgun and did not comply with the officers’ commands to drop the weapon, police said. Officers shot her. Officers began lifesaving measures. Rogers was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead about 1 a.m.
